SUMMER REC OUTDOOR ADVENTURES 2024
WHAT is Summer Rec? Summer Rec is a ten-week, all day, all summer kids' program run by Harrison teacher Staci Tucker and her staff (including local college and upper high school students). They plan for an array of activities, trips, guest speakers, and fun for all different kids of kids, and every child swims every morning in the City Pool (at no additional cost).
Harrison's Youth Center has been hosting Summer Rec for many, many years. Many of our parents were Summer Rec kids themselves!
Plan now to send your kids for a day, a week, a month, or a whole summer of fun.
WHO can come? Kids who will be in Kindergarten through 7th grade in the fall of 2024. They need to be ready for an active, fast-paced day of fun and able to follow directions. PLEASE NOTE: We have very limited spots for kindergarteners and because of that, the ones who sign up need to be attending for the full summer. We'll have to wait to meet the rest of the kindergarteners next year as first graders!
WHEN does it happen? Summer Rec runs for ten weeks- from the Tuesday after Memorial Day to Thursday, August 8 (other than the week of the 4th of July). We are open Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm. Yes, you can bring them late or pick them up early; no, you can't bring them earlier or pick them up later! :)
WHERE is it held? Summer Rec is based out of Harrison Parks and Recreation's Brandon Burlsworth Youth Center, which is attatched to the City Pool and near the Lake Harrison park complex and the nearly-finished Creekside Community Center. We swim at the city pool daily, hike sometimes to the soccer fields and playgrounds, and have tons of fun inside our home base-- the Youth Center gym and its classrooms.
WHY does my child need to come? Kids need fresh air, new and varied experiences, exercise, fun with friends, and caring supervision during the summer. You need to know that they are having a great summer, getting their needs met, and making memories and buddies that will last a lifetime. Everyone's reasons vary-- whether you're looking for all-summer childcare or an occasional Parent's Day Off, Summer Rec can fit your needs.
HOW MUCH does it cost?
- Every participant must sign up by filling out our Pre-Registration and paying the small $10 fee. This gets us the basic information we need to care for your child and gets your child the 2024 Summer Rec t-shirt.
- Once you're pre-registered, you have an array of choices. You can register now or wait until the night before they come; you can pay by the day, by the week, by AutoDraft each Sunday night, or by paying for the entire summer at once. Do what works for you!
- New this year: Pre-registration, registration for individual days or weeks, and paying field trip and snack card fees is ALL done online via our website. No more waiting in line at the Youth Center!
- Entire Session $900 (10 weeks)- New this year! Pay for the summer upfront and get an additional savings of 10% over our low weekly rate!
- 4-5 Days per week: $100 weekly
- 3 Days per week: $60 weekly
- 1 day per week: $25 weekly
- New in 2024: If you know you need the same amount of care each week, sign up for weekly AutoDraft and have the payment delivered to Summer Rec each Sunday night for the following week. (So easy!)
- When necessary, an additional fee may be requested for special trips and experiences. Participation in these activities is optional, and payment will be made through this website.
- Payment for the day must be made via our website and before your child appears on our doorstep.
- New this year: We'll have convenient Auto Draft available for those who want to "set it and forget it" and let the system make a payment each Sunday night for the coming week.
- You do not have to sign up for the whole summer ahead of time-- unless that's what you want to do or you want one of those rare kindergartener spots (see above).
