Kiwanis Kids Zone Now Open!
Harrison Parks & Recreation is excited to welcome families to the new Kiwanis Kids Zone playground and mini-splashpad at the Equity Bank Sports Complex!
This new recreation area was made possible through a community partnership involving the City of Harrison, Kiwanis Club, Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, and the Arkansas Department of Heritage, Parks & Tourism.
The Arkansas Department of Heritage, Parks & Tourism provided a $150,000 matching grant toward the playground, while the Kiwanis Club contributed $100,000 toward construction of the splashpad. City of Harrison employees also provided extensive planning, labor, equipment, site preparation, concrete work, plumbing, electrical conduit installation, and improvements to the existing pavilion and restrooms.
A New Place for Families to Play
The Kiwanis Kids Zone was designed to provide families on the north side of Harrison with another free and accessible place to play, while also serving the many families who spend time at the Equity Bank Sports Complex for leagues and tournaments.
The playground includes slides, climbing and play features, and accessible equipment for children of different abilities, along with both regular and accessible swings.
Right next door, the mini-splashpad gives kids a place to cool off during warmer months and includes several water features—including a large dumping bucket!
Families can also enjoy a nearby shaded picnic pavilion, accessible restrooms, picnic tables, and a water fountain with a bottle-filling station.
Location & Hours
The Kiwanis Kids Zone is located inside the Equity Bank Sports Complex on Industrial Park Road. The playground is located deeper inside the complex near the existing pavilion and restrooms, so visitors will need to park and walk into the ballpark to reach it.
The playground is generally open daily from dawn to dusk. During leagues, tournaments, and other special events at the sports complex, it may remain open until activities conclude for the evening.
The splashpad will remain open during warm weather and will close for the winter season before reopening when warmer weather returns in May.
Solar pathway lighting is also planned to help provide a lighted route between the parking area and Kids Zone.
A Community Project
City officials, Kiwanis Club members, Chamber of Commerce representatives, neighborhood families, and local children recently gathered to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting.
Harrison Parks & Recreation Director Chuck Eddington thanked everyone who helped make the project possible and described the new area as an asset that will serve both the community and the sports complex for years to come.
Come visit the Kiwanis Kids Zone and enjoy Harrison's newest place to play, splash, and make memories!
